3 Tips To Prepare For Playoffs

elitegoalies.substack.com

Hey Goalies! 👋

Pasco, Josh, and I put together a short video and share some tips that will help you prepare for playoffs. Check it out 👇

A quick review of the video 📝

1. Nerves vs Excitement

Understand the difference between nerves and excitement. You’re body is sending you signals but don’t interpret them wrong.

2. Routine. Rest. Recovery.
Prep your mind and body. Now is not the time to cram for the exam. Put trust in the hard work you’ve put in all season.

3. Know your Battlefield

Opposition: Expect your opponent to be perfect, one of the biggest mistakes is assuming the team you play will be the same team you played throughout the season and that you expect them to struggle.

Know the shooters, the set up players and grinders.

Team Meetings: Participate in every meeting that has to do with your defensive system. Power play, Penalty Kill, Breakouts.

Commands: Clear and concise communication, commands in the D system. Be sure to agree upon these terms and communicate them clearly and ensure that you set up your defense well and get out of their way.

The Elite 12 Camp… Something New!

We are working on something new for our Elite 12 invite camp in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Think Pro Day for football… where we mix a traditional high end goalie camp with a goalie showcase.

We’re selecting 12 goalies for each location and inviting in 4-5 NAHL and USHL coaches to watch.

Why???

Typically in junior tryouts coaches don't get an opportunity to get a good feel for the goalies. Often there are 50+ goalies at camp and most goalies only get to showcase themselves for a few periods. It’s tough for any coach to evaluate under those conditions.

So what’s the plan???

By bringing the coaches in to watch our goalies they can learn much more. They can see the work ethic of the goalies as they work on their craft. They can talk to the goalies they like and they can get a better understanding of what makes them tick. To me that brings a ton of value to our goalies so we’re going to try it!

Well, that’s all we got for ya’ll now:) Good luck in your games and we’ll see you at the rink!
